Oma was here for the weekend and loved seeing her little granddaughter all dressed up in her finest. In fact, Emme was wearing a baptismal gown made from Oma's wedding dress. It was a very special dress for a special little girl, and we were so proud to put her in it!
During the service, the pastor told the congregation the story of Emmeline's gown and where it came from. She also spent some time talking about her big brothers and how she will always be protected and loved. I know those big brothers were super proud to be up there, and there is no doubt they will take care of their little sister.
Today was a day of firsts. Emmeline is the first (and only) of our children who has been baptized in the Presbyterian Church. She is also the first (and only) to wear this baptism dress. Although in some ways it feels weird to have everything be completely different for her, I am actually really happy that we broke "tradition" for tradition's sake. Emme was baptized in the church that over the past two years has become like a second home to us, a place where our children will grow up and cultivate their faith. It felt completely right and wonderful to have her baptized there, and we are so thankful for this communitiy.
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.
