Fun With Oma

We were so excited to have Oma up for a little visit, in the winter no less! We aren't used to having anyone come see us during the long frigid months of winter, so this was a big treat for all of us. I am pretty sure she had a great time, so hopefully she will make this a regular occurrence!

Before Oma even got here, we discovered that the Barbie Dreamhouse Experience was on exhibit at the Mall of America. When Brody and Leyton saw Barbie's hot pink VW Bug, they immediately began begging to go! I was completely taken by surprise as that was about the last thing I expected from my boys. But, being a huge fan of Barbie myself, I was very curious and a little bit excited. So I told them we would wait for Oma and all go together.

We didn't know what to expect or if the boys would even have any fun, but it was just too tempting not to check it out. Some of my best childhood memories are of playing Barbies with my sister and/or our friends. We would play for hours, designing entire Barbie cities in our bedrooms and even taking them on long camping trips out in our backyard. I couldn't wait to relive a little bit of my childhood!

So we entered a world of hot pink and stilettos, where breakfast consists of frosted cupcakes, the closet is bigger than my house, and Barbie's private jet can get you just about anywhere in less than five minutes. We had a blast--ALL of us, even my tough boys! And although I think it was outrageously overpriced for what you actually saw and did, we made some fun memories that we can certainly laugh about for years to come.

Our favorite area by far was the dress up bins near the runway and music stage. We couldn't get Brody and Leyton to stop! Brody jammed on his guitar and Leyton pretended to sing as we heard "Everybody Needs a Ken" over and over and over!

My favorite part was seeing all the collector Barbies on display as we walked through the exhibit. Seeing them made me really excited to have a little girl who hopefully will enjoy playing Barbies just as much as I did!

On our second day together, Oma wanted to get out in the snow and play a bit. Thankfully for her, the temps had warmed up significantly by then, and we saw a day in the 40's, perfect for playing out in the snow! The boys loved showing Oma how to make the perfect snowballs for a snowball fight! They all came inside soaked and exhausted. Oma has now decided that she will need to invest in a pair of snowpants for next time.

On Oma's last day in Minneapolis, Callan, Emmeline and I took her out for donuts at our favorite shop, Glam Doll Donuts. We spent a relaxing morning cuddling and hanging out before we had to head to the airport.  Thanks for visiting with us, Oma! Come back to see us soon!
