Christmas Countdown #5 & 6

Day 5:
Tonight you will enjoy dinner by candlelight with french toast and hot chocolate. Mmm!

I didn't get pictures of this, but it was very well received, as you can guess. The sugar high that followed was a little wilder than anticipated, but thankfully bedtime wasn't very far away. :)

Day 6:
What do animals do when winter comes? Find out in our surprise Christmas book! Then make a pinecone bird feeder to hang in the tree in our front yard so the birds have something to eat this winter.

This activity led to more entertainment than I possibly imagined, and it wasn't from the birds. I came home on Friday morning to discover one of the pinecones was missing--not just fallen from the tree, but nowhere to be found in our yard.  I knew our pesky squirrels were at it again. Later, I got in my car for preschool pick-up, and as I was turning the corner, I spotted three squirrels literally rolling my pinecone down the sidewalk. As you can imagine, I turned into crazy mama. I jumped out of the car, arms flying, and ran after those crazy little rodents. I was able to get my pinecone back and return it to its proper place in the tree. What followed was literally an entire afternoon spent at the front window watching those three crazies in our tree. They managed to get all three of our pinecones down again and ran away with them all. So no birds this year, but I guess we can feel happy that we at least offered the squirrels some nutrition over the winter so that they can return in the spring to bother us again, probably just in time to steal our Easter eggs...
