Field Trip to Richardson Nature Center

Today I chaperoned Brody's field trip to Richardson Nature Center.  It was fun to see him with his school buddies, and I got a little peek into a typical day for Mrs. King with fifteen boys and nine girls in her class!  I don't know how she does it, but she does it well!

The first part of the field trip was a nice little hike on the trails. The guide led the kids on a leaf collecting journey, teaching them the differences betweent he types of leaves they found.

Then they headed out to the pier to observe "stuff" in the water.

As we headed back to the center for the second part of the field trip, we managed to stumble upon this guy.  I've never seen a salamander in the wild before.  The kids were so excited and eager to touch him, but thankfully, he made it safely into the weeds and disappeared from view before any little hands could grab him!

Then the kids took turns using the apple press to make homemade apple cider.  They each took a turn loading the grinder with apple slices and then turning the wheel to grind them up.  The cider was delicious!  Yum!

It was a fun morning spent with my big kindergartner, and I'm pretty sure he was happy to have me there! :) I'll take it as long as I can get it!
