Goodbye Grade 1

School's out for summer! Yippee! The best time of the year is upon us, and the Smith Crew is chomping at the bit to do a ton of fun summer activities involving sun, water, and just being outdoors! It is bittersweet, however, as Brody had to say goodbye to his first grade teacher and his fun class of friends. He had such a great year, and we will miss Mrs. Moore AND his class!

In celebration of the end of school, the class had a fun "field day" themed party outside with games like the 3-legged race, the spoon race, and relays. E and I went to check it out, and the kids had a blast. It was a gorgeous morning and fun to take part in the excitement. Brody and his buddy Wyatt won the 3-legged race, and they were so proud!

I still can't believe the end of the school year is here. I clearly remember going to his Open House before the first day and meeting his teacher for the first time. He was so shy but excited to see who would be in his class from kindergarten. SO much has happened since then, but it has gone by entirely too fast! The most exciting part is just watching this boy dive into a book and get lost. I love that he's such a bookworm and so proud of what he can read! And, believe it or not, he's matured a ton this year. We have gotten quite a few compliments lately about how grown up and helpful he's become! Now don't get me wrong--he still has his moments--but I'm a proud mama and happy for him because I know he feels good about himself. I honestly cannot say enough great things about his teacher and her hard work and support with him.

As we said goodbye to Mrs. Moore and walked out to our car after his last day, I thought he looked quite sad, maybe even a bit tearful. When I asked him how he felt, he didn't hesitate to tell me that he was indeed feeling sad about leaving his class. How cute is that?! And when we got home, all he wanted to do was go thru his backpack and show me his notebooks and journals and other special items he was able to bring home. We read his stories and laughed about them. It was so sweet.

Cheers to an amazing first grade year! Now on to the next adventure!
