CANDY!! CANDY!!
Those words were probably heard for miles this year as our little cuties ran from house to house collecting their treats. We had such a blast this Halloween, and we were thankful to have good friends to share it with. Thanks, Molepske Family, for sharing in our fun adventures!
As has been the case over the past few years, we opted to dress the kids in theme costumes. I have had their costumes planned since before we knew if Callan was going to be a girl or a boy. Brody mentioned last year at some point that he wanted to be a knight, which led me to decide that Leyton would be a dragon. Those costumes were easy! We quickly found a knight set at Creative Kidstuff and our wonderful neighbor Michelle gave us a dragon costume that her boys no longer fit in. That left Callan's costume...If Callan had been a girl, he would have been a princess (it fits perfectly with the theme, right?) but since he wasn't, I needed something else to go along with the knight/dragon idea. I came up with the idea of dressing him up as a baby dragon hatching out of an egg. Cute, huh? Except for the fact that you can't find a baby dragon hatching out of an egg costume anywhere. Who knew?! So I had to put my creative skills to work and make it myself. I bought a peapod baby bunting from Target, cut off the peas, and added a yellow felt belly, purple felt spikes, and white felt eggshell details to make it look like what I was envisioning. And Mom, just for you, I even sewed the front and back pieces of egg together! I thought it turned out great, and the boys looked adorable together!
Brad and I weren't really going to dress up, but thanks to our amazing neighbor Wendy, who literally has anything and everything you could need, we came up with some cute spur of the moment costumes, too! I had already decided to wear my cute animal print dress, and lo and behold, Wendy had a yard of unused leopard print fur fabric just lying around. She sent me home with it and I fashioned some ears, boot covers, and a tail. She also sent me home with a very tight red unitard type outfit that she thought would be perfect for Brad. I thought there was no way he'd put it on, but the next thing I knew, he was out in the front yard raking leaves and wearing the darn thing! (I promise, no beers were consumed prior to that event!) With a devil tail and horns, and a button-down shirt, tie, and sports coat, he quickly became The Devil's Advocate--clever, huh? We all thought so!
The Molepske family came over for trick-or-treating, and we loved watching our little ones get such a kick out of it. They were SO CUTE in their costumes, running from door to door. The sheer excitement on their faces was priceless. And a big bag of sugar is a small price to pay for all the fun that was had that night! I think the kids could have kept going for hours, but after a few blocks, the mommies were cold, so we all headed over to Wendy's house for some yummy eats and bevs. After some warm chili and hot dogs, we dragged our very tired little guys home and dropped them in their beds, where they promptly fell sound asleep, eagerly thinking about their next Halloween adventures! I know I can't wait until next year!
