Although it's already been two weeks since Leyton's first birthday, I wanted to be sure to write about it now that I have all the pictures from Oma. It was really a fun and memorable first birthday, and I hope Leyton enjoyed it as much as we did. (From the way his face looked after devouring his first cupcake, I would say he did!)
Decorations
We did a frog prince theme, and it was a huge hit! I had decided on the theme way back in July, so I was greatly surprised when I walked into JoAnn's for some decorations for Brody's party and I found these adorable felt frog prince ornaments. They were too cute to pass up, so I attached them to wooden dowels with blue and yellow ribbon streamers to make magic wands. I arranged them in glass vases filled with white tulle and green/yellow/blue balloons for the table decorations. Then, after the party, each guest received one of the wands as a favor.

In addition, the kiddos decorated their own gold crowns with stick-on letters and jewels. It was so fun to see all the little princes and princesses running around!

Cake
Brody decided that we needed cupcakes for Leyton's birthday, so I set out to find out how to make frog cupcakes. As luck would have it, there were tons of pictures of other people's frog cupcakes on my trusty go-to website, Coolest Birthday Cakes. They were actually very easy! I just made funfetti cupcakes and iced them with light green icing. Then I sprinkled light green sugar on top. For the eyes, I took white chocolate candy wafers and used icing to glue a chocolate chip in the middle. Those were simply set on top and held in place by the icing. Then I finished off the cupcakes with gold glitter crowns that I made by cutting out a crown pattern from tagboard, gluing gold glitter all over them, and then gluing toothpicks on the back. Presto! Instant frog prince!

Leyton absolutely loved the singing and the cake.He just couldn't get enough. His eyes were so wide when he saw the cupcake with the lit candle coming toward him, and then he started clapping and waving his hands. He couldn't wait to dig in to that yummy cupcake, and he couldn't shove it in his mouth fast enough! :)

Presents
Leyton didn't have a chance when it came to opening his presents. Big Brother wanted to do all the work for him. Brody started unwrapping so fast that I couldn't figure out what gifts were coming from who. I finally had to intervene and tell him that Leyton had to try to open each gift before he could step in and help. Leyton was thrilled with all of his new goodies and happy to have some things that are all his own!

What a fun-filled first birthday! Even though I am so sad to see babyhood coming to an end, I am happy that we could celebrate this blessed milestone with our sweet little prince! What a joy!
