Halloween 2014

Halloween around here never seems to disappoint. This family starts talking Halloween in mid-September--planning costumes, picking out pumpkins, decorating indoors and out, and arguing over who will get the most candy! There's just something magical about putting on a costume and running around the neighborhood, collecting candy and getting spooked! I don't think we'll ever outgrow it. :)

As much as I would have loved to plan a fun theme for my brood, they all knew exactly what they wanted to be this year, so I just went with it and feel like each costume expresses each personality SO perfectly! They looked adorable!

Our little woodland fairy...

I decided after purchasing these wings for her 6 month appointment that we would just have to use them again. They were the perfect accessory to her fairy dress. I found the dress during the summer clearance at the Heartfelt store here in Linden Hills. I probably wouldn't have bought her a dress otherwise, but finding it on sale sealed the deal. Of course, she's huge so I could barely squeeze her chubbiness into it. I made her headpiece with bendy artificial twigs, sequins, and pearls. I don't think she could have looked any cuter, and I was happy that she ended up wearing the costume three different times over the course of that week.

our aloof vampire...

Brody has said he wanted to be a vampire for as long as I can remember. It was actually the perfect costume for him because we had just purchased the vest and dress pants set this summer for Aunt Allyson's wedding, and it made a great vampire costume. We added a cape and pendant necklace, along with fangs and makeup to complete the look. Spooky!

our brave shining knight...

Costco continues to amaze me with the quality of their Halloween costumes. We bought Leyton a fabulous pirate outfit there a couple years ago, and when Callan and I stumbled upon this knight costume, we both knew he had to have it. They are extremely reasonably priced, too, at less than $20, but they look like they should cost much more! He looked awesome, and I know this suit will get lots of wear at home during dress up time.

our silly but sweet devil...

This costume ended up being the most time consuming of them all, but it was totally worth it. I love how it turned out and he did, too! We found the horns, tail, bow tie, and pitchfork at Jo-Ann's when Oma was visiting. It was all 50% off, so we snatched it right up. He really wanted a cape, but I couldn't find anything that look very good until I found this one at Target on a very random shopping trip. After that, I had to come up with a shirt and pants. I hit up the Goodwill near our house, and I found the perfect items! Red velvet pants that matched the red velvet on his cape perfectly, and a red silk blouse that I chopped with scissors, giving it that fiery effect. Perfect devil suit!

Some group shots...

We headed out to trick or treat the neighborhood with our friends The Powells. It was a pretty cold night; in fact, it was the coldest we've had so far. I laughed that of course it had to come on Halloween! So we bundled up and headed out to see what kind of fun we could find.

About halfway through the trick-or-treating, we discovered that Callan was wearing socks but no shoes! Oops! Thank goodness I had thought ahead to put him in wool socks! We decided to head over to the park to warm up with some hot chocolate and cider. The park always does a great job, offering a themed indoor trick-or-treating walk through, a magic show, and lots of goodies. After that, we called it a night and went home to sort our loot.

Good night, sleep tight, don't let the little spooks bite!!
