Erupting Ice Chalk

We tried a new activity to beat the summer heat--erupting ice chalk!

It's easy and fun to make. With just water, cornstarch, baking soda, and some food coloring, you create a pasty liquid that you can freeze in ice cube trays to make sidewalk chalk.

Once the chalk starts to melt, the fun can really begin. With squirt bottles of vinegar, you can make your drawings erupt like little volcanoes. This was a quick and easy project and lots of fun on a hot summer day!
