Leyton's Art Party

We're wrapping up birthday season around here...well, except for mine on the 13th and the new baby's, of course! We celebrated Leyton's 5th birthday (eeek, I can't believe I just said that!) with a fun art party at Simply Jane Studio.

Leyton is into all things art right now. In fact, he spent nearly every afternoon all summer engaged in an art or craft project of some sort. You can can give him a roll of ribbon, scissors, paper, and markers and he will come up with the most creative projects! What better way to celebrate all that creativity than with a fun painting party with his friends?!

From the minute I found the invitations on etsy, I knew we would proceed full speed ahead with a rainbow theme, and Leyton was totally into it. He helped me make these cute rice krispie paintbrushes to serve at the party and give out as favors. Aren't they adorable?

After perusing the internet for cake ideas, we settled on a rainbow cake...you know, the kind that has six layers made up of each color of the rainbow. I thought it would be so easy! And really it was, except for the fact that I am not a professional cake baker and all my layers kept sticking to the pan. It took a little longer than anticipated to put this thing together, but hey, it was worth the effort! Leyton LOVED it!

The art studio was the perfect space for a party. Look at this cute party room! We just added some rainbow theme dinnerware and party hats, and we were good to go!

this tipped over in the car on the way there, which is why my orange layer looks a bit skimpy.

As the guests arrived, they were given paint shirts and sent over to the wheelbarrow to choose their canvas for painting.

Then Ms. Jane led them in a quick little lesson about how to use their supplies and go about painting their canvases for the best effects.

The kids were very intent on their work, for all of about 15 minutes! :)  Brody, the oldest attendee, definitely put some effort into his work! Looks good, Brody!

After painting, we all headed into the party room where we found a giant trunk and closet full of dress-up clothes. You know how much my kids enjoy dressing up--this was pure heaven for them!

leyton and bridget = little lovebirds...they hadn't seen each other all summer, but it was like they had never been apart!
Time for cake! We couldn't wait to crack it open and see the rainbow layers!

i thought for sure it would topple over as soon as we cut it, but thankfully, it held up so everyone could have a slice of goodness!

Then it was time for presents! Leyton was thrilled with all the gifts he received, and you can tell his friends know him well. Tons of new art supplies and craft pojects came home with us, and he has been a busy boy all week!

As the guests left for home, we sent them away with these fun little treats...

Happy Birthday, Leyton! Your party truly was a MASTERPIECE!
