Tooth Inflation

Sometime in February, my baby lost his very first tooth. I know this is a huge milestone. I know I'm a terrible mother for not remembering exactly when, but if you read my last post, you know that February was a really hard month for me. Please don't judge.

So, back to Brody. He first noticed his tooth was loose on a Sunday morning. He was so excited and went to town wiggling it as much as he could. It got looser every day but he couldn't seem to make it come out. Fast forward to Friday. I picked him up from school and guess what? His tooth was missing. Not only was it missing, but he had no idea where it was! He is not even sure exactly when it came out, although he thinks it might be when he was eating an apple at lunch. He realized it sometime after the fact while he was sitting in class. So, first tooth missing and it was really missing! Nothing to put under his pillow. I told him he could write a note to the the Tooth Fairy and she would understand.

That day, Brad left for a men's ice fishing trip. I was left alone with all three kids for the whole weekend, feeling like utter hell (sorry but it's true) and barely able to take care of myself, much less all my children. Plus, I didn't have a bit of cash. I probably could have come up with some quarters, but I didn't have a dollar bill and I really wanted the Tooth Fairy to leave him $1 for his first tooth. So, I stalled him. The first night I told him it was too late to write a note but that we would do it first thing in the morning. I hoped he would forget and we could stall again until Dad came home the next day to rescue me. Who was I kidding? He was up, paper and pen in hand, before 6 am the next day.  He is NEVER up before 6 am!! He composed the following note all by himself:

That night, he placed the note under his pillow, full of excitement about what he would find the next day. I almost completely forgot. BUT, at 10 pm, as I was dragging my sleeping booty off the couch and to my bed, I suddenly remembered that the Tooth Fairy needed to make a little visit before 6 am the next day. (You know if he got up early to write the darn note he's certainly going to be up early to see what she left him!) I searched all over, but all I could come up with was a $5 bill. I know!  Who pays $5 for a tooth? I knew Brad would shoot me, but I felt I had no choice. Desperate times...well, you know. So the Tooth Fairy left him $5 for his first tooth. You can guarantee this will not happen again! I told him that she probably  gave him that much because she felt sorry for him since he lost his very first tooth and couldn't even find it. I told him she would probably leave $1 for the rest of his teeth. He seemed ok with that. We'll see...
