Last weekend we headed up to Duluth for a family weekend getaway with the Molepske family. If you've signed up for Groupon, you are already well aware of the great deals you can get on any number of fun things, and if you haven't signed up yet, what are you waiting for?! Brad and I have become quite the Groupon addicts, and we were excited to find a great deal on a one night's stay at Edgewater Resort and Waterpark in Duluth, a short 2 1/2 hour drive north. We thought that the waterpark coupled with a day of skiing at Spirit Mountain would be a perfect little adventure for our brood, and we were right! It was a really fun weekend! We laugh that we are at the age where we now get excited about taking the kids to a waterpark, but at the same time, some of my best memories from my childhood were from family excursions just like this, so I'm happy that our children will have the same experiences and hopefully the same fond memories.
This little Tiki Man was waiting to greet us when we checked into our room.
We tried to get a cute shot of the kids as they were putting on their swim gear, but they were too excited to sit still for very long.
A little bed wrestling before swim time!
This guy's ready for the water!
We headed up on Saturday morning, and after checking into our hotel room, we made our way down to the waterpark area. It was balmy and warm in there, just what I needed. So what if there was no real sun, warm waves, or sand...I'll take what I can get! The kids had a fabulous time splashing around in the zero-depth pool, floating around the lazy river, and zooming down the water slides, and I enjoyed a yummy margarita! After an afternoon of fun, we ordered pizza and took it easy in our room, all crashing before 9 pm.
Brody and Ellie--cute little swim buddies!
Callan loved the lazy river, but he likes warming up in his fuzzy towel, too!
Me and my big boy--isn't he getting so big?!
Cute middle man
Splash!!
The guys minus one--Leyton, Brad, Mike and Thad
Lovin' Leyton's surfer hair!
Baby C was beat after all that swimming!
On Sunday morning, we woke up bright and early and headed out to Spirit Mountain, Duluth's ski area. We had signed up Brody and Ellie for a kids' ski program, so the guys dropped them off with their instructor and then headed out on their own to enjoy some free ski time. Marhya and I took the little ones to the Lake Superior Zoo followed by a tasty brunch downtown. It was a great morning. After picking up the skiers at 3:00, we made the drive back to the cities, already looking forward to our next adventure! Weekends like these are just such a treat, and we love to get away when we can and leave the daily grind behind, if only for a couple days!
