30 seconds...that's all it took to go from a perfectly pleasant day to a not so great one. :( I sent the two big boys down to the playroom so I could unload the dishwasher in peace, never knowing that would turn out to be a huge mistake on my part. Within a minute, Brody called up to me that I needed to come see Leyton's hair. I knew it, before I even saw it. Brody had decided to play "barber shop," at the expense of his brother's beautiful blond locks! Although you couldn't really tell from the front, there were at least four totally bald spots in the back, along with multiple areas of uneven hair. I was horrified, but I tried not to freak out too much. I did send Brody to his room, and we later had a nice long chat about why it wasn't a good idea to cut someone's hair. Of course, when I told him there was nothing we could do but cut off all of Leyton's hair, he gave me a funny look, then busted out laughing, then said, "But mom, now he's going to look like Uncle Jeff!" :)
When Brad came home last night, I tried to convince him that I could have it fixed at a salon, but he wasn't having any of it. He took Leyton upstairs and so it began. When the first bits of hair were cut, I burst into tears, as did Brody, and Brad made us leave the room so we wouldn't scare the poor little man. I was so so sad to see his hair just falling away. :(
The end result? Well, although it is definitely not anything I ever would have chosen for my little boy, those big blue eyes more than make up for it. :)
And when we asked him to feel his head, he replied with, "It's spiky!" and a big smile. Now, if I could just get him to keep his hat on! :)
