To our BIG little boy:
Today is your half birthday, making you 4 1/2 years old! Mommy and Daddy can't believe how big you are getting. It seems like just yesterday when we welcomed you into our world and all the fun began! You have been such an amazing little boy, and we are both proud of you and awed by you at the same time. We just can't believe that such a wonderful little guy like you could come from us!
You have been all boy since the day you were born. You are rough-and-tumble, full of energy and a zest for life, and can sometimes be quite a handful! We strive daily to offer you many opportunities to run, play, and just be a kid, but I think you could probably run 24 hours a day and never be tired. I wish I had that kind of energy! Right now you are ice skating, swimming, and skiing, and you will be starting a gymnastics class and soccer in a couple weeks. I know you are going to be really excited about that, and I can't wait to watch you in a new atmosphere with many new skills to learn!
You are quite the charmer, with your big smile and your rosy cheeks, and it seems that you make friends easily. You adore everyone in your class at Berry Patch, and you love to tell us all about the things you do together in class. You like to make cards and draw pictures for your friends at home, and you always want to send them in the mail along with little gifts. When your cousin AJ was in the hospital, you immediately suggested sending him a present to make him feel better. Sometimes it can be hard for you to include new people into your established group of friends. You tend to get a little bossy and maybe even a little jealous of the newcomers. We continue to work on that because we know what a great friend you can be! We are proud of the relationships you have made with your friends and can't wait to watch them continue to grow. :)
We've known for some time that you are a major smarty-pants. You know so much about so many things! Just last week I overheard you explaining the layers of the rainforest to Leyton. I'm not sure he understood what on earth you were talking about, but you definitely did! So far, you haven't had much patience for sitting and writing numbers and letters, but you are showing more interest as the weeks go by. It's fun to watch you learn new things everyday, including some things we might not want you to know!
Your favorite things at 4 1/2 are superheroes, dinosaurs, bugs/animals and knights. You think you like Star Wars, because all your friends do, but you don't really know anything about it. (I think that's funny--peer pressure has already begun!) You still love to read books and can cuddle up with mom or dad for a very long time and read together. You love to put on puppet shows, draw, and play pretend/dress-up. For awhile you were very interested in making "robots," which basically meant that you built things out of whatever you found around the house--foil, paper, string, and lots and lots of tape. Your imagination is really going to work these days, and you have some great ideas. I could see you being an inventor someday, along with about a million other things. You can basically do whatever you set your mind to!
In short, Mr. Brody T. Smith, we love you to the moon and back! You are the firstborn son we always hoped to have, and we thank our lucky stars to have you in our lives.
XO,
Mommy and Daddy
