He's Been Here for Half a Year!

Callan George Smith celebrated his half birthday on January 27th, making him the big 6 months old! Has it really been that long since he made his super swift grand entrance into our family? Time is flying even faster the third time around, and I am trying to remember every day to just soak it all in and enjoy every moment I have before he's running around and making as much trouble as his big brothers!

Things are going great with this little man. First and foremost, he's growing! And I've stopped worrying completely about his weight gain. In fact, I finally dug out Leyton's old stats from 6 months, and it looks like the two are actually quite comparable. I don't know what I was worried about. And, now that Callan's on solid foods and literally sucking them down at each feeding, I think he's going to grow even more. He loves everything we've given him so far (ok, except the peas--NOT a hit!) and I'm making friends with my blender and food processor once again.

The little guy enjoying a baby mum mum cracker in his exersaucer...looks like he's got a little mum mum on his face, too!

He can feed himself!

Some new things he's doing right now...
*babbling and interacting more than ever, with little squeals and shrieks and lots of consonant sounds. We're hearing lots of da's and ba's, but no ma's yet!
*grabbing at everything within reach. I have to be super careful to put potentially dangerous items out of reach. Making me worried about when he's mobile and reaching for all of B and L's little toys!!
*rolling and reaching when he's playing on the floor. He's been rolling from tummy to back for quite awhile, but last week I watched him finally roll from back to tummy. I haven't seen him do it again, but I have a feeling he'll be rolling all over the place before too long.
*He loves to do his own little baby dance, where he waves his arms and legs really fast when he's excited. It is so funny, and probably a great way to burn some calories (maybe Mommy should give it a try!)
*not sitting up yet and not really even close

He's graduated to the big boy bathtub in his brand new bath seat, and he loves being in the bath with his brothers. They love being in the bathtub with him, too, and end up arguing over who gets to sit next to him. So sweet!

Look at me!

The biggest and best news this month is that he's finally sleeping in his own crib all night! Yay! I was dreading it, thinking I would be up all night trying to train him that he doesn't have to have mommy right next to him all night, but it didn't end up being all that bad. Each night has gotten easier, and last night he only woke up at 1:30 for a feeding and a few hours later he put himself back to sleep with just a bit of whimpering. I am very proud of my big boy. As usual, it was harder for Mommy to give him up than it was for him to sleep alone. Poor me!

Every day brings new excitement with our littlest cutie, and we are loving him so! Looking forward to the next six months together!
