Reaching the five month mark means time for solid foods! It's funny how things change over the years regarding babies and solids. I remember when my little sister Allyson was a baby and starting solids. Back then, you had to stick to same-color foods, and you started with yellow. I remember her eating squash and apples as her first foods (after cereal.) I even remember making up a song that I would sing to her when I fed her..."Do you like your squash and your applesauce...?" These days, it seems to be a new trend to skip right over the rice cereal and go straight to fruits and veggies in any order you please, but since I started B and L with rice cereal, I decided to start Callan with the same thing as his brothers.
It's always fun to see their reactions the first time they get a taste of something new, and Callan did not disappoint! He gave us quite a show, but ultimately he decided that he loved his cereal and has been sold on solids ever since! We've moved on to new items on his daily menu, and so far he has loved everything (although bananas freak him out a little bit.) Sweet potatoes are his favorite, and today he tried a mix of banana and avocado, and that was a surefire hit as well. I feel so much better about his weight now that I can see how much he's consuming. Which leads me to his latest stats...15 pounds, 15 ounces (25th percentile) and 27 inches long (90th percentile.) Looks like we have another long and lanky guy. Thanks to my friend Andrea, who shared a Breastfed Baby Growth Chart with me, I have found out that he's actually in the 50th percentile for breastfed babies, so that makes me feel even better. I like comparing apples to apples!
all ready for his first bite. look at that owie from big brother L. doesn't it make you so sad? poor baby!
