Our boys are growing up way too fast. I can't begin to believe that in a few short months, Brody will turn 4 and Leyton will turn 2. Where has the time gone? And what happened to my little babies? We are having a ton of fun together right now, and I remind myself daily to take time to pause and soak it all in--all the belly laughs, hugs, kisses, and "I love you Mommy"'s, not to mention the funny things they both say and do.
They are really the best of friends right now, and it is so darn cute I can hardly stand it. Brody will tell us, "It's a hard job to protect Leyton," but usually he does it very well. It's funny how they can't stand to be apart, even though they definitely fight when they're together. And Leyton just wants to do everything Brody does--everything! Plus, he now repeats everything that Brody says, so you can imagine the earful I get in a day!
Brody has just a few weeks left of preschool, and then we will have a busy summer ahead. We've signed him up for weekly summer camp, sports camp, a week-long nature camp and Smart Start baseball, which is a program that is one-on-one with a parent, teaching him the basics of the game. We also bought a pool pass this year and plan to take full advantage of the many warm days we hope to get this summer. Hopefully, we'll keep this ball of energy busy throughout the long days! Speaking of ball of energy, Brody's antics last week caused him to take a trip to the doctor for an x-ray of his foot. He decided to stand on top of our plastic slide and jump off, which resulted in a very sore foot and a very sad little boy. The doctors couldn't find anything wrong with his foot, but a week later, he's still walking a little strangely. I'm giving it a few more days before I take him in again.
Leyton is still our easygoing little man, although he is definitely exerting his independence and opinions about things. He is also starting to hit occasionally (mostly me when he's frustrated,) so we are working on showing him that hitting hurts people. He loves to do all sorts of art activities, especially painting and play-doh. And when he concentrates, he "baas." Seriously--he sounds like a sheep! It's kind of crazy, but it's just one of his things. Anytime he's super busy--like when he's using a shovel to put sand in a pail, or flipping through the pages in a book, or writing with sidewalk chalk, he's "baaing." Everywhere we go, we get comments about his funny noise. He is also talking in full sentences, which is so crazy to me! Last week he said, "Put my shoe on" and then the next day, he walked into the kitchen and said, "Brody's kicking me." This makes him seem so much more like a little boy and less like my itty bitty. I'm so proud yet melancholy all at the same time.
Here are some pictures we took at the Children's Museum last week. We went back to play in the dinosaur exhibit. This time, Brody and Leyton dressed up like Troodons and played in the nest. Brody is very much into imaginative play right now. He'll tell me that I'm the mommy dinosaur and Leyton's the baby dinosaur and he's the brother dinosaur and they are going to look for dinosaurs to hunt and eat while I stay and guard the nest. We play out different scenarios all the time. It's cute to hear him when he's with his friends, too--how they act out different situations and have these little conversations. Again, growing up way too fast!
