A few days ago, I was walking on the sidewalk outside our house when I discovered a fuzzy caterpillar crawling along, minding his own business. I immediately called Brody over to take a look. Of course, he wanted to pick it up right away and put it in his bug box. So we did. We went inside and looked it up on the internet to find out what kind of caterpillar it is. It's a Banded Woolly Bear, which eventually becomes an Isabella Tiger Moth. We found out that it loves to eat grass, dandelions, and clover, all of which are abundantly growing in our yard right now, which is probably why it was there in the first place. The article told us to put a stick in the box so that it has a place to make it's cocoon. Now we'll just see if it lives long enough to make one. So far, so good--it's lasted four days! Today we took it out of the box for a little walk so we could put in some fresh leaves. You're not supposed to touch the fuzz because it can irritate your skin, so Brody has learned to use his sand shovel as a way to move it from place to place. Isn't it a cute little pet?
